So we have decided to spend a weekend between sisters not too long ago, and it was all about celebrating Cristina’s 24th birthday – you can still find her here, go if you have not been on her blog yet!! – and it was all about brunch and coffee.
Fred and I have been trying to treat her to some sort of different weekend, all about the things she loves – see below, in no particular order:
- coffee {she is our sister after all}
- food {I mean… why would you even think otherwise?!}
- plants {a trait inherited by the mother herself}
- museums {again, we are not even bothered to ask why here, it is like it is for all of us}
- anything to do with TJ, our much beloved kitty cat – I talk about him here. Β
Of course, we have opted for a very much needed lay in, it was Saturday after all and, if there is one thing we can all do well – after food, coffee & procrastination – is sleep, like a proper heavy sleep, filled with nothing but me snoring – sadly, it’s my reality, but more on this on a different post one day, maybe – and the other two as well. Everyone knows that breakfast it’s the most important part of one’s day, so we did hit Caravan in Kings Cross just as it opened around 10 am. So brunch and coffee it was.

Whenever we are out, the first thing we order is coffee. You will also be surprised to know, we are not only fussy about food, or skincare, we are super into our coffee and know our coffee quite well, if I may – both Fred & Cristina made it their career as well, but more on this another day, on a different post. So imagine the joy on that first sip of flat white – my drink of choice, no matter the time or place – running down my throat and fuelling my hangry stomach for a minute or two. Bliss. PURE BLISS.
Of course, we went there for the food – and oh maaaaa lord, the food choices! Their menu is ever-changing, and it’s always beautiful. We each picked something different, and not even one of us had anything to say about our choices: too good to make a fuss.

Fred opted for their waffles with a coffee-infused caramel and mascarpone, while Cristina was craving smoked salmon and eggs, so decided to go for their smooth scrambled eggs and jasmine cured salmon. Both of them looked – and tasted – lush.

And me being me, I had to opt for the low-calorie, low-carb, low-life option…NOT! I went full blast on what I could assume is a revisitation of a traditional breakfast? Possibly. Crispy potatoes, cavolo nero, chorizo, poached eggs, and hollandaise sauce, pretty much my idea of paradise if you may. I do L O V E eggs more than, say, I love potatoes, and poached is by far my favorite way of having them.
Of course, the whole eating and drinking had to also turn in a little walk to try and shed some of the calories we just pushed down our throats, and what a better place to explore than the newly refurbished Coal Drops Yard?! This is such a nice redevelopment in the Kings X area that you will end up loving: small cafes & restaurants are dotted around, while the shops take the majority of the space on the lower level. The courtyard is just huge and perfect for a summer afternoon of shopping, but of course, in the mid of November, it’s a bit grey – beautiful nonetheless.

And we walked around for a bit, getting in and out of shops just to have a quick look, with even more coffee on hand.
