Gift wrapping has never been my strongest suit, there’s no way to lie about it.
When we were kids, Simona was the one in charge of wrapping for whichever occasion: birthdays, Christmas… you name it, she did it.
However, I used to spend hours wrapping cheese at work and it slowly became more natural. Still, I consider myself a hopeless case, but nothing a bit of decoration can’t mask, right?

Christmas though doesn’t just come as the most festive time of the year. After doing some research, in the UK alone the waste during Christmas goes up of 30%. 227,000 miles of paper get thrown in the bin without being recycled.
So this year I decided to make gift wrapping a bit greener. I scraped together all the old wrapping paper, cloths, twine, bows and twigs from the house and set to work.

Just a disclaimer first. This post is more of a place where to gather ideas. As I don’t think I would be the best at giving instructions on wrapping. Just arm yourself with brown paper and set it as your canvas. If you have to buy new paper, make sure it’s recyclable.
To decorate you can use almost everything, these are some of my favorites:
- twigs
- cinnamon sticks
- old newspapers
- dried fruits
- pine and/or eucalyptus
- stencils
- ribbons
- pens
The most important thing is to have fun and create something with your own hands. I am sure they will be appreciated more by your family and friends than the average Christmas wrapping paper.

For the brave of hearts, there’s also origami wrappings. I think I spent almost an hour watching videos of them, but I won’t brave them this year yet.
Also, check out how to neatly wrap round gifts, because they look absolutely amazing!
