There is one thing I thought I loather about Christmas and that thing was Spicy Eggnog. Of course I was wrong, how can you not love it it’s just beyond me. I had tried eggnog for the first time years ago at Starbucks, and I don’t remember enjoying it particularly.
So then of course, when planning Christmas, we were lacking in the drinks department. That’s when
we (Fred) thought it would be great to have the recipe on the blog.
I gathered I needed a recipe for the perfect eggnog, and obviously went searching on Pinterest. However that only means losing yourself and getting distracted by the myriad of things you don’t need – but will eventually try out because, yes.
Finding the recipe was easy enough to decide to make it almost immediately, and it’s the one from Imma at Immaculate Bites. Just a few changes here and there, but you’ll see.
- 8 large egg yolks
- 150g sugar
- 120g heavy whipping cream
- 360ml whole milk
- 1 tin condensed milk
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 4 whole cloves
- 1/3 tsp salt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- In a pan, whisk the egg yolks and sugar until well combined.
- Add the cream, milk, condensed milk, spices and salt and bring to a simmer for a few minutes, until it starts to thicken.
- Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract, then serve immediately.
- If storing for later, refrigerate for up to one week.
I have been drinking this Spicy Eggnog by myself, or better…spooning this off a cup by myself: it was thick and nice, a great not so light way to end the evening while watching The Crown on Netflix.
The Best Spicy Eggnog ever
Have you ever had Eggnog before? It’s lush and spicy, so very easy to make and can be also made ahead of time if you wanted to serve it after dinner.
The spices in it make it very Christmas-sy and delicate at the same time, and if thick enough, can be eaten as a dessert instead.
The recipe I used was slightly different and had a few different stages I did not follow…I am sometimes lazy like that, so bear that in mind.
It still came out absolutely banging and I couldn’t avoid sharing this fab recipe with you.
The original recipe for eggnog also called for evaporated milk, not condensed – but then again Fred seems to be convinced they are actually the same thing and I can’t bear to fight her over this. Sisters, what can you do?
