In the many years of blogging – apparently 7 years and counting on and off, who knew! – I have realised I am incapable of setting goals and deciding what I will be focusing on in the new year. So, to avoid any of that disappointment, I am setting the 8 things I want to learn in 2021 instead.
Yes, I know, it’s February already and pretty much the end of the year is in sight – just kidding, or am I?! – but all I have chosen in this case is stuff that I can do without leaving the house. Isn’t that great?
We are stuck inside in the UK and I have never craved leaving the house so much. Not because of anything wrong with the house, just the need for freedom is getting the best of me.
We regularly go for walks with the dogs, so that is also amazing, but I haven’t seen anyone more than the people I live with, and bless them, they are saints for keeping up with my mood swings most times, but I start to feel like I am in need of people interactions. Like, different people.
How do I keep my mind busy then, without driving every single one of them – cat and dogs included – up the wall, willingly signing up for my own death? Distractions. Fake goals. Activities I would have never ever imagined to pick up on my free time because I could simply not be arsed.
I have to correct myself, though, one of said activities would require leaving these 4 walls – but we all know THAT activity and learning process is never going to happen.
One thing at the time, I will make sure you are aware of all the things in due course. Which is now.
The 8 Things I want to Learn in 2021
Learn to Swim
Yes, 30+ (almost) years old and still unable to swim. A proper fear of water, combined with the inability to find a bloody class that can take me in has gotten me to this point. You’ll remember this post where learning to swim was in my to-do list. Spoiler alert: it didn’t happen.
Learn to Cross-Stitch
I have tried this before, but for the love of God I do not remember anything about it – bless my mum for trying. So I found some cute little sets on Amazon that are definitely worth trying for a beginner like me – and you, if you are a beginner too. Find one here, and the other one here.
Learn to Knit
I have actually started this at the end of 2020 to keep myself distracted from all that was going on back home and let me tell you, I found it quite entertaining. I have a lot – like, a lot – to learn, so this could be considered my first achievement of the year once I finish TJ’s mini bi-colour scarf and I start on the hat I purchased from here.
Learn to Embroider
Another hands-down activity, very much brain-engaging for me, so always a winner in my books! I would probably end up embroidering everything I own, but at least it would look pretty! A quick starter kit from Amazon is available here, and with a bit of a cheating item, it is here instead.
Start & Complete the Puff The Bakery Courses
So the PUFF School of Pastry is no longer available for purchase, but I got it just as they were about to remove it from sale and I couldn’t be happier! This will help me learn all about the foundations of pastry and more, and my bakes will never be the same – hopefully in a positive way.
Keep Up an Exercising Routine
Again, if you know me a tad bit, you know I hate exercising, but 2021 has been the year of new things, and about a month ago I started using our Nintendo Switch with the Ring Fit Adventure and let me tell you, completely worth the money. Not only I have managed to start a routine where the exercises are a combo I can pick and change every time, but I also do not even have to leave the house (major plus, considering the gyms are closed for the foreseeable and I am a lazy butt) AND I can now do yoga without laughing my ass off.
Learn to do Makeup
There are two categories in the make up world: the people doing a fantastic job with whatever they have on hand, and the people who lie. I am of the latter, of course, and my very basic skills on makeup need an upgrade. I am reading all the blogs I can read and I will start watching all the videos I can, and for now my main inspirations are Katie from KatieEmmaBeauty and Hannah from LuxuryBlush.
Learn a new Language
At the beginning of lockdown #1 I had started learning Portuguese using Duolingo. Then, of course, that lasted for like maybe 3 minutes? And I went onto different things (cue – Animal Crossing New Horizons anyone!?) and these pastures just looked very much greener. Trying again with Duolingo, and let’s see how that ends.
So here are the 8 things I want to learn in 2021. Are there any things you’d like to learn in 2021? Let me know in the comments below!
