What is fudge?

Fudge is a sweet confection with a history that is a bit unclear and disputed. While there’s no definitive origin of fudge, it is believed to have been created in the United States in the late 19th century. Several theories and stories surround the creation of fudge, but one of the most popular claims attributes its invention to a happy accident at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York, in the late 19th century.

The story goes that a batch of caramels being prepared by a group of college students didn’t turn out as expected, resulting in a creamy, crystallized substance that we now know as fudge. The treat was so well-received that it became a hit and quickly spread to other parts of the United States.

While this origin story is widely accepted, it’s worth noting that there were similar sweet concoctions being made in other places around the same time, so the true origin of fudge remains somewhat shrouded in mystery. Regardless of its exact origin, fudge has become a beloved and popular treat enjoyed by people around the world. And you can find out with this easy no bake peanut butter fudge too!
