What is natures gatorade?
A homemade gatorade is an easy electrolyte drink made from natural ingredients that help keep our body hydrated and nourished with minerals and water, without artificial colors or flavors. But what is an electrolyte drink?
An electrolyte drink is a drink that helps our body replace mineral and fluids we lose when we sweat. These minerals include sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium.
Electrolytes help keep you hydrated, support your muscles, regulate your PH, help your nerves work properly, as well as help regulate blood pressure, blood sugar and heart rate, support your nervous system and much more. (UHC)
Our cells need daily minerals like potassium and magnesium, which are naturally found in coconut water, while the salt (which contains sodium) helps with the absorption of these minerals and fluid balance, and the fruits add even more vitamins, minerals and flavors to our drink. So natures gatorade is great during stressful times, after or during physical activities and during the warmer months

What ingredients do I need to make natures gatorade recipe?
- unsweetened coconut water: rich in potassium, which helps regulate fluid balance, support muscle function, and prevent dehydration. As well as a smaller amount of magnesium, calcium and sodium. Make sure to use an unsweetened coconut water and organic like Foco (the one we used) or Harmless Harvest.
- orange juice: provides vitamin C, which supports immune function and collagen production, antioxidants, and potassium.
- lime juice: adds vitamin C and antioxidants while giving the drink a refreshing flavor.
- maple syrup: provides natural carbohydrates for quick energy and contains trace minerals such as manganese, zinc, potassium, and calcium.
- mineral salt flakes: a source of sodium, one of the key electrolytes lost through sweat. Sodium helps the body retain fluids, maintain hydration, and support nerve and muscle function. Skip the table salt and make sure to use an unrefined mineral salt like Pink Himalayan salt.
- ice: keeps the drink cold and refreshing.
- ginger & lemon slices: ginger contains compounds called gingerols that may support digestion, reduce nausea, and provide anti-inflammatory benefits, while lemon adds vitamin C, antioxidants, and a bright citrus flavor that complements the other ingredients.
How do you make homemade gatorade?
Making your homemade electrolyte drink is so easy and quick, you will need less than five minutes! Start by adding the coconut water, freshly squeezed orange juice, lime juice, maple syrup and salt flakes to a large glass.
Stir well until fully combined. Fill the glass with ice and then add some slices of fresh ginger and lemon over ice for extra flavor. Enjoy your natures gatorade!
Can I change anything in this natures gatorade recipe?
Yes! You absolutely can! You only have a few ingredients, which are a must in this drink for it to work, which are coconut water and mineral salt. For the rest you always want a fruit compound which can add more vitamins, minerals and flavours. Some easy swaps for orange juice are:
- watermelon: adds hydration and amino acids which help with muscle recovery;
- strawberries: adds vitamin C and antioxidants that support recovery and immune health;
- berries: add antioxidants that can help reduce inflammation and minerals;
- cucumber: promotes hydration, add potassium and vitamin C and K;
- carrot: adds antioxidants and beta-carotene for overall recovery support.
Lime can be swapped for lemon juice and maple syrup can be swapped for another natural sweetener you prefer like agave syrup or honey. Just make sure that while swapping, taste it and adjust to your own taste. For example, I love using lime everywhere and love the more tarty and bitter taste than lemon, so I add even more. The biggest tip I can give you with this natures gatorade recipe is to have fun and experiment with other fruits, making your perfect electrolyte drink!
