Rice Krispies Christmas Puddings
Of all the recipes we have put out there this Christmas, this one must have been one of my absolute favourites to make. Not because it was easy or quick to make. Even though that always helps! It’s mostly because I have an addiction to anything that looks extremely adorable. And of course, this is the case with these Rice Krispies Christmas Puddings.
Yes, I know. These Rice Krispies Christmas Puddings are extremely similar to the Mini Christmas Pudding Bonbons we made last year (and updated recently). But not everyone is actually into Christmas pudding as much as the English are, and rightly so, you need options. Maybe because of the alcohol, or maybe because of getting a Christmas pudding around where you live it’s almost impossible. In any case, whatever the reason, I have got your back.
Not only are the ingredients of these Rice Krispies Christmas Puddings completely different from the bonbons we have previously made. Oh no, they are also even easier to get your hands on and maybe cheaper too. When it comes to decorating these, all you need is some melted white chocolate and sprinkles. Or, if you are as insane as I am, you will get your aunt to help you out at 11 pm one night. And you will handmake every single leaf and berry to go on them. Yeah, I know, my family must really love me if they are happy to put up with my shenanigans. Blood runs thicker than water. Having said that, both my parents and sisters were laughing at us. So no, not really!
Of course, the joke of the family.
But I would say that was an experience. A learning curve. Not only we have had to dye the fondant in two different colours. But we also had to find a way to shape them with what we had on hand. Not an easy task, if you ask me. Then again, the sprinkles are available online. And you’ll be happy to know these Rice Krispies Christmas Puddings are smooth sailing from here.

What is a Rice Krispies Christmas Pudding?
Well, I let you in a secret: not many of us enjoy Christmas pudding. Some of us cannot – Fred has an allergy to berries and wild fruits – and most of us just don’t find it very pleasant. I know, not so English of us. But while we do enjoy the idea behind it, we had to find an alternative to the berries and fruits and nuts. So we went for these Rice Krispies Christmas Puddings instead. Very similar to a Rice Krispy treat you’d be making or buying at the supermarket. You will not be able to resist them!
These will be a hit at your Christmas get together, or make the perfect little Christmas present. Just bag them up and put a nice little ribbon on them. I am sure they will be appreciated by kids and adults alike!
What ingredients do I need to make the Rice Krispies Christmas Puddings?
We have used 5 ingredients to make these Rice Krispies Christmas Pudding, that is without counting in the sprinkles. So with a total of 6 ingredients, you could easily make these in an afternoon with the kids.
Aside from, of course, the Rice Krispies, you will need marshmallows, milk chocolate, butter and white chocolate. If, like me, you are going to be making the decorations by hand, I recommend using white fondant or sugarpaste and food colouring. Of course you will need the green and red, and I recommend using gel food colours. The holly leaves are not as easy as they look, trust me. So sprinkles are the only way to go, really.
How do I make the Rice Krispies Christmas Puddings?
These Christmas treats are as easy as melting the milk chocolate in a pan with butter, then adding the marshmallows. Once everything is melted and combined, pour the mix in a big bowl with the Rice Krispies and combine until everything is well coated. Let the mix cool down slightly so that it’s not too hot to handle and then divide in equal parts and roll into balls.
You should allow to cool in the fridge for a few hours, or even overnight. Then, when ready to decorate, melt the white chocolate and drizzle it on top, then place your sprinkles. The Rice Krispies Christmas Puddings are now ready to be served!
What can I replace and what tips do I have for you?
If you find the whole deal a bit on the sweet side, I do believe you can swap milk chocolate out for dark chocolate. And when it comes to Rice Krispies, you can go for Cocoa Pops instead, if that is more your cup of tea!
As for the sprinkles VS homemade debate – this is really up to you and the time you have on hand. Some great sprinkles are available on Amazon or your nearest grocery shop.
