Most Delicious 3 Ingredient Nutella Cookies
This 3 ingredient nutella cookies recipe was first published on May 8, 2023.
I love a good recipe with few ingredients like the four-ingredient banana bread, four ingredients no-knead bread or three-ingredient strawberry sorbet that we shared during the years, so I couldn’t miss sharing this delicious 3 ingredient Nutella cookies.
Nutella has already made its debut in our recipes with these Ferrero rocher nutella cupcakes and there’s more in store to come. Why you may ask? Well, tell me whatever you want, but we love this hazelnut and chocolate spread. Yes, there’s a healthier version. Yes, you can make homemade nutella and a lot of people try to avoid having it at all cost.
But it’s been a treat since we were kids, so bringing this nutella cookie recipe here on the blog is like a blast from the past. When we were kids we used to spread Nutella between cookies and have them with milk or as an afternoon snack, or have it on bread during breakfast. But nowadays we know how to use an oven and even if we still enjoy a slice of bread with it, we wanted to go a bit further!
These 3 ingredient Nutella cookies are foolproof and rest assured something you will make over and over because it takes only minutes to mix, roll and bake and you will have a simple dessert recipe right on your table, no fuss added! And what’s more, is that being so versatile, this recipe can call easily for add-ons like nuts or make nutella peanut butter cookies, which sounds yum!

What is Nutella & what is Nutella made of?
Nutella, the main character of this recipe, is a rich chocolate and hazelnut spread that was created in Italy by Ferrero in 1964 and the year after, it got the iconic jar everyone knows Nutella for. This chocolate and hazelnut spread is nowadays famous all over the world and is used for anything like sweet drinks and cocktails, dessert fillings, on bread and breakfast choices.
But what is this spread really made of? Nutella is made of sugar, hazelnuts, palm oil, cocoa, vanillin, skimmed milk powder and soy lecithin. If you ask if this is a healthy choice for a snack, everyone will answer it’s not and as with any food, it needs to be consumed in small quantities (Healthline). However, this sweet spread makes an amazing ingredient for recipes being so versatile and easy to use, giving a rich flavour and texture. And that’s all these Nutella cookies recipe is all about!
What ingredient will I need for these Nutella cookies?
As the title suggests, all you will need is three ingredients! You will need Nutella, all purpose flour and an egg. This makes these cookies one of the most straightforward and foolproof cookies recipe!
How to make 3 ingredient Nutella cookies
You will start off these 3 ingredient Nutella cookies by preheating the oven to 180°C (350F) and lining a baking tray, either with parchment paper or with a silicone baking mat. This was the first recipe we ever used our brand-new baking sheet, and they were amazing and no waste!
Mix the three ingredients in a large bowl and mix them until well combined. The dough will be on the thick side, but still easy to roll. Next up you will have to get your hands dirty and roll your cookies. Around two tablespoons of dough for each one, but you can decide to make them bigger or smaller too, just mind the baking time.
Flatten your cookie dough with your hands, or an ice cream scoop or with a fork as we did, so that you will see the impression of the fork on them. Or you can also use the bottom of a glass. Place them on the baking tray and bake for 8-10 minutes.
The edges will be fully cooked and the middle will still be slightly soft. It turns very quickly from them being overcooked, so keep an eye on them! Let the cookies cool completely and then drizzle with more Nutella (yes, I have a sweet tooth and think it still needs some, but it’s totally optional!). Enjoy your Nutella cookies!

What can I add to these easy Nutella cookies?
As we mentioned already, this recipe is so easy to make and also the best candidate for add-ons! Think about these rich cookies with some peanut butter swirled in the dough or maybe just on top. Or if you love a more nutty flavour, you could add chopped hazelnuts to them for an added crunch.
These 3 ingredient Nutella cookies would taste amazing with some broken pretzels inside, which would make a great balance between sweet and salty. Also, a drizzle of caramel would be an amazing add-on or coconut sprinkled in the dough, yummy. Your cookies, your choice!
How to store Nutella cookies
These 3 ingredient Nutella cookies can be kept for up to three days in an airtight container at room temperature. If they do last that long! In case you still have them after a few days, they are great even warmed up or crumbled up on ice cream!
Can I make my own Nutella at home?
You absolutely can! We don’t have a recipe, yet, but we love this quick creamy hazelnut spread recipe by Crunchy Creamy Sweet. All you have to start off is with roasting hazelnuts, which will take around 12-15 minutes, let them cool and then remove the skin with a kitchen towel. Next up you will be blending them for about five minutes when they start to liquify.
After that, you have to add cocoa, vanilla, salt, oil and sugar. In less than half an hour, you will have your delicious homemade nutella spread, that you can keep refrigerated for up to a month. It sounds easy enough and with only seven ingredients. A good choice in case you can’t find Nutella or want to try your hand at making it at home.
To freeze or not to freeze, that is the question
As a rule of thumb, when making cookies, a lot of recipes call for freezing or chilling time. But why? And is this something you need for these 3 ingredient Nutella cookies? Usually, freezing the dough or refrigerating it for as little as thirty minutes can help your cookies to spread less, brown better and get a better chewy texture. This happens because first and foremost, we give time to butter to firm.
But it also gives time to the flour to hydrate which helps still with the chewiness of your cookie, but refrigerating can also help with taste, giving your cookies an even richer flavour. And, refrigerating allows you to have cookie dough ready for baking when you feel like it too! (Taste)
Although, chilling is fine for this recipe, as it will hold a better shape. It’s not really necessary as there’s no butter in it, but they do tend to spread. But as this recipe was a quick 3 ingredient recipe, I didn’t feel it was that necessary to refrigerate.
